Chelsea News: ex-boss Timo Werner makes career predictions

Chelsea have yet to see the best of Timo Werner’s “fantastic” summer signing, according to former coach Ralph Hasenhuttl.

Werner signed a five-year contract at Stamford Bridge over the summer after Chelsea met their RB Leipzig buyout clause.

It was Hasenhuttl – now in charge of Southampton – who signed Werner for German club Leipzig in 2016.

The Saints boss believes Werner will prove to be a ‘fantastic’ signing for Frank Lampard and says Chelsea fans have yet to see the best of their new striker.

Werner has scored one goal in five appearances for Chelsea and will be hoping to help the Blues beat Hasenhuttl’s Southampton this weekend.

“I have worked with a lot of players and he is one of the fastest. It’s really hard to defend against, ”Hasenhuttl said in his pre-match press conference.

“He’s becoming a more complete striker now and learning a lot. He’s a fantastic signing for Chelsea and he’s only happy when he scores so hopefully he will be unhappy after the game.

They have yet to see the best of him at Chelsea in his first games. He only scored one goal, I think, in the cup.

It would be a mistake to reduce Chelsea to Timo, however. They have a lot of other good players on the team.

“I hope I can talk to him but not congratulate him on a goal. ”

Hasenhuttl added: “I know this player very well. I spent two fantastic years with him. We brought it from Stuttgart for a small fee if you will.

“We knew the game we played in Leipzig was perfect for him, but he also showed development with the ball last year.

“He was fantastic for me in his first year and scored a lot of goals. “
