SANTA CLARA, Calif .– A few unlikely players helped give the Philadelphia Eagles their first win of the season.Travis Fulgham caught a 42-yard touchdown pass Carson Wentz with 5:50 remaining and Alex Singleton returned an interception for a score that saw the Eagles claim a 25-20 win over the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday night.

“It’s a huge relief. A big team victory, ”said Wentz. It’s fun to see these young guys step up and play in big times like this. ”

With the Eagles (1-2-1) missing their top three receivers and a tight No.2 Dallas Goedert, the little-known Fulgham, who entered the game without a career catch, delivered the game of the game for Philadelphia.

The Eagles were backed with a second and 18 from 42 after Jalen hurts missed a shotgun snap. But Fulgham passed the save cornerback Dontae Johnson and Wentz delivered a perfectly placed pass for the score that gave Philadelphia an 18-14 lead.

“After breaking up the clique, Carson said, ‘Be prepared,’” Fulgham said. “At first I lost the ball, but because Carson gave me a big throw, I was able to locate it and grab it in the bread basket. ”

Nick Mullens then threw an interception that Singleton sent back for a TD at next practice for the 49ers (2-2), who were sent off to their second loss in as many home games. Singleton had only played 11 defensive shots before the game.

Mullens committed three turnovers, including the loss of a fumble on a strip bag by Cre’Von LeBlanc who Malik Jackson recovered to establish the green light score.

Mullens scored 18 for 26 for 200 yards and a touchdown before being substituted by CJ Beathard following his third gift.

“We had a lot of opportunities. I really didn’t perform, ”Mullens said. The way I’m feeling is pretty black and white right now. I just didn’t perform. This is what it comes down to. Three turnover, 14 turnover points. That’s really about it.

Beathard led a late TD practice and took the Niners to Eagles 33 before his desperate lift fell incomplete in the end zone in the final game.

“After this game we wanted to be tired of the dogs,” said the defensive back. Jalen Mills said. “We had to give everything to get this victory. ”

The Niners hope to be started Jimmy Garoppolo back next week from an ankle injury that sidelined him for two games.

Beginner Brandon Aiyuk worked his way to a 38-yard touchdown off a Mullens fullback, and George Kittle had a career-high 15 catches for 183 yards and a score to lead the Niners.

Wentz entered the week with the lowest passer rating and most turnovers in the NFL. But he ran for an 11-yard TD and threw for 193 yards and a score to take the Eagles to first place in the hapless NFC East with their first win of the season.

“The first place looks really good, but we have a long way to go,” said coach Doug Pederson. “Only the first quarter of the season is over. We have a long way to go. These guys don’t stop. It is a resilient group. ”

REMOVE IT

The Eagles got their first defensive result of the season thanks to a bad decision from Mullens. With the Niners in the red zone, Mullens threw a grab ball under pressure and Rodney McLeod came up with. They added two more in the fourth quarter. Philadelphia’s only takeout in the game came on special teams.

SLOPPY GAME

Wentz threw his seventh interception, the worst in the NFL, in Philadelphia’s second practice of the game. His pass was deflected by Javon Kinlaw and removed by Azeez Al-Shaair. The seven interceptions equal Wentz’s total in each of the past three seasons and are the most important since he was 14 as a rookie in 2016. The Eagles’ last quarterback with at least seven picks in the first four games was Ron Jaworski in 1982.
