Prince Harry has frankly confessed to having a fiery temper – and as for his older brother, well, he didn’t prove any Sweet William when he was awake.
In the years since her 2005 marriage to Prince Charles, William’s new mother-in-law confided in her family and close friends her surprise at this unexpected side of Prince Charming – “The boy has character!”
Camilla had been horrified by the ranting and delirium that William could occasionally unleash against her husband – letting herself be torn apart without apparent inhibition in his presence.
In the years since her 2005 marriage to Prince Charles (pictured), Camilla said she was surprised by William’s mood
The rows had been shattering, according to her account, William screaming and Charles obediently submitting.
As she described these painful episodes, William would hold nothing back. He could spark anger for the importance he attaches to his difficult role as future king.
In William’s realm everything had to be perfect – and if his father had somehow failed to live up to his eldest son’s lofty view of what it means to be royal, the young man would release his fury.
It seems Charles is also falling short of his eldest son’s eye level as a wonderful parent. In 2017, in marking the 20th anniversary of Diana’s death, William was fiercely uncompromising in his reluctance to make conciliatory remarks about Charles’ father from his orphaned sons.
Royal PR assistants begged the young prince to give his father some sort of nod when speaking to reporters ahead of the screening of the ITV documentary Diana Our Mother, but he flatly refused.
Charles and William, pictured with Harry in 2014, now clearly appreciate the need to work closely together for the future of the monarchy
William just wasn’t ready to pretend that Charles, a workaholic and always worried, had achieved all the parenting practices he had promised.
It should be noted that lately – and especially since the adjustments that the royal family had to make in 2019 and 2020 following their disagreements and the departure of Harry – father and eldest son have come very close.
Prince Charles and Prince William now clearly understand the need to work closely together for the future of the monarchy – whether it turns out to be a fraternal reconciliation next year or a regulated and agreed-upon form of an effectively permanent division.
Their father-son births are said to be episodes from the past.
