“Be Motivated to Vote”: New Mom Katy Perry Begs Americans to Exercise Their Rights

TORONTO – As some of her celebrity brethren pumped iron, popstar Katy Perry pumped milk in a new humorous video directed by Jane Fonda in which Americans were encouraged to “exercise” their right to vote in the next presidential election. In the short Instagram video shared on Monday, Fonda leads a retro virtual workout with Perry, her fiancé Orlando Bloom, Kerry Washington, Amy Schumer, Shaquille O’Neal, Ken Jeong, Vanessa Hudgens and Ashley Benson.

Dressed in their best spandex, the stars danced, skipped rope, lifted weights, kicked high and tried all manner of exercises – with varying degrees of success – in an ironic effort to promote voter registration before elections.

In one scene, Bloom can be seen lifting weights as Perry secretly observes him from a distance while eating a candy bar.

Perry, who gave birth to her and Bloom’s daughter Daisy Dove in late August, was also shown pumping breast milk later in the exercise video.

“Be voting,” she said to the camera during the scene.

At the end of the video, the “Smile” singer asks her classmate Schumer, “Amy, does your child have teeth?” in an exasperated tone as the text “exercisethatvote.org” pops up on screen to encourage viewers to visit the website and register to vote.

The US presidential election is scheduled for November 3.
