Batman spotted on Liver Building as Liverpool transform into Gotham City

A famous figure was spotted on the Liver Building today as the Liverpool skyline turned into the towers of Gotham City. Production on the latest Batman film resumed this weekend after a hiatus following the coronavirus pandemic, with star Robert Pattinson spotted in Liverpool city center.

The last appearance of the Caped Crusader was spotted by a skateboarder who looked up while at Pier Head.

Instagram user _olayka wrote: “I just watched Batman relax atop the Liver Building.

“Do you know how I have full makeup on !! “

The production company had already started to set up for filming around St. George’s Hall, including the passage from William Brown Street to the cells below the lobby.

The film, titled The Batman, stars Pattinson as the legendary DC Comics hero and is slated for release in June 2021 by Warner Bros.

This is a reboot of the franchise, with Pattinson reprising the iconic role of Ben Affleck who donned the famous Batsuit for the big budget Batman vs Superman and The Justice League movies.

As Liverpool enters the third level lockdown, some people have questioned why production of the film was allowed to continue as local businesses such as pubs, bars and gyms have had to close.

The Liverpool Council does not comment on the individual productions taking place in the city but, approached by ECHO, has confirmed that the level 3 restrictions do not limit filming.

A spokeswoman said: ‘The new restrictions in Liverpool are currently having no impact on filming in the city area. The film office works closely with each production to ensure that covid security measures are in place and are followed according to rigorous industry protocols.
