Aston Villa fans message Leeds United player as transfer star

Here are the headlines from your Villa morning on Saturday 24 October following the Premier League loss to Leeds United.

Fans of the villa send message to Patrick Bamford

Aston Villa’s incredible start to the Premier League season was interrupted by Leeds United during a clinical finishing night for Patrick Bamford.

Villa was climbing high ahead of Friday’s clash at Villa Park after winning their first four top-level matches.

Sheffield United, Fulham, Liverpool and Leicester City had all succumbed to Dean Smith’s men, who would have been top of the table ahead of the weekend with a draw or better.

But Leeds – and Bamford in particular – had other ideas, scoring three unanswered second-half goals to inflict a first-division loss to Villa since the 3-0 home loss to Manchester United in July.

Villa player ratings after Leeds United loss

Patrick Bamford threw a successful hat-trick to condemn Aston Villa to their first loss in eight Premier League games.

Newly promoted Leeds United have been lively throughout and have made Dean Smith’s men pay with Bamford punishing Villa’s surprisingly lackluster defense with a series of brilliant finishes.

The forward, hated by Villa fans for his acting at Elland Road in April 2019, could have gotten five or six as he continued to give Ezri Konsa and Tyrone Mings a scorching hot time.

Villa, however, who could have gained the upper hand if they had avoided defeat, could have passed Jack Grealish not once but twice. The skipper had an effort related to the goal clear from the line in the first half while, before Bamford’s opener in the 55th minute, he did a deep mazy run before forcing Illan Meslier to a halt.

Man City transfer message sent by Douglas Luiz

Manchester City will keep a close watch on Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz as a potential Fernandinho replacement, according to Emile Heskey.

City have inserted a buyout clause in the £ 15million deal that took Luiz to Villa Park last summer, allowing them to re-sign the Brazil international for a fee of £ 25million.

The 22-year-old has had a superb start to the season, helping Villa record four wins in five Premier League appearances after playing a key role in the successful relegation battle last season.

It was claimed in the Brazilian press during the summer transfer window that City were considering exercising their clause, but it is understood that Luiz was not a target for Pep Guardiola’s side. However, former Villa and England striker Heskey believes that could change with Fernandinho, 35, entering the final year of his contract.

Martin Keown questions Arsenal’s decision to sell Emi Martinez

Arsenal legend Martin Keown has questioned his former team’s decision to allow Emiliano Martinez to join Aston Villa.

Keown’s comments follow a mistake-strewn performance by Arsenal number one Bernd Leno in the Europa League on Thursday night.

Leno’s capricious pass gave Rapid Vienna’s Taxiarchis Fountas an easy goal in Arsenal’s 2-1 win in the Austrian capital last night.

Mikel Arteta’s side ultimately turned things around thanks to David Luiz and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, but Leno’s performance raised question marks.
