Apple cuts prices for iPhone headphones and chargers

Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL), which isn’t exactly a company known for their generous discounts or specials, cut the prices of two accessories that many users see as necessities.

Without making an official announcement, the tech giant reduced the list price of its EarPods headphones to $ 19; it was previously $ 29 a pair. The company also sells the 20W USB-C power adapter for the same price, while a previous comparable model cost $ 29.

However, it’s appalling to many Apple fans and customers, as the company previously packed both a headset and a power adapter with its iPhones. With the new iPhone 12 line officially introduced this week, however, it has stopped doing so; the two items – considered essential by many users – must now be purchased separately.

In its press releases announcing the new product line, Apple said about the move that it would reduce the size of the iPhone 12’s packaging. The change is intended to “further reduce carbon emissions and avoid the extraction and use of valuable materials, which allows smaller and lighter packages and allows 70% more boxes to be shipped on a pallet ”.

The company says that with the number of iPhone 12 models likely to ship, it will reduce carbon emissions by 2 million metric tonnes per year, which is equivalent to taking nearly 450,000 cars off the road. It is not known whether this claim has been independently verified.

Investors appeared to ignore the unbundling announcement on Wednesday. Apple shares basically traded sideways, which was a relatively good performance considering the S&P 500 index fell that day.
