Anthony Davis has a player option for the 20-21 season with the Los Angeles Lakers and it is not yet clear how he will approach his contractual future. Davis, however, is expected to stay with the Lakers for at least the remaining LeBron James bounty seasons.Davis is represented by Rich Paul of Klutch Sports and the agency has been a forerunner in asking LeBron James to take on shorter contracts in order to maximize his earning capacity and also to keep control over his career trajectory. James can sign a maximum contract for 35% of the cap during the 2022 offseason when he reaches 10 years of service.
At his post-championship press conference on Sunday night, Davis was asked to share his perspective on free agency and also his relationship with James.
“For the first part, I had a really good time in Los Angeles this first year,” Davis said. “It was only joy, nothing but amazement. Over the next few months, we’ll find out. I mean, I’m not 100% sure, but that’s why my agent is who he is and we chat and find out.“Bron’s relationship and I are always close. You know it. I arrived in Los Angeles, he is the first to text me, congratulate me, invite me to his place. over this past full year, especially here in the bubble, because we were together every day. So we were able to really connect from the ground [in a way] that you might not get the chance to do it when you’re in LA. You have families and other things going on. So we really had the chance to really connect and learn more about each other.
“Learning from him helped me experience those moments. I don’t know if he learned anything from me. I mean, he’s kind of seen it all, been through it all. But just being around him, the way he acts and the way he leads and the way he enjoys life, being with his family and enjoying basketball, it just made me become a better person and a better player. ”
