Alabama and Clemson lay out their arguments for No.1 – The Athletic


I was going to keep No 1 Clemson, but Tide hammered a very talented team and won from the start. Based on the caliber of the opponent they beat and how they beat them, I felt like they deserved the top spot this week. As always, I am only ranking the teams that have played this season.1. Alabama (4-0)

Georgia entered their showdown with the Tide allowing just 198 passing yards per game. Alabama receivers DeVonta Smith and Jaylen Waddle each put in over 160 as they teamed up with Mac Jones to torch a very talented defense. Coming in 2020, Alabama has seen five 400-yard passing days in its rich history. Jones has now passed 400 in three straight games.

2. Clemson (5-0)

No, the Tigers don’t have a win against a team as good as Georgia, but they’ve been dominant every time. Clemson was up 52-7 at halftime at Georgia Tech and could have hit triple digits if Dabo Swinney wanted. The Tigers crushed Miami two weeks ago …
