JANE Thomson, founder of the Fabulous Ladies’ Wine Society and the Australian Women in Wine Awards, should have been in France at the head of a tour group in Champagne.
COVID-19 put an end to that and Thomson was instead in Newcastle on Saturday as a guest speaker at a Gallic wine-themed lunch, featuring French cuisine and wines from Burgundy and Champagne.
The sold-out event at Flotilla restaurant in Wickham was hosted by specialist French wine importers Decante This and Flotilla.
Decante This Founder and CEO Leigh Dryden and Ms Thomson hosted the three-course lunch prepared by Flotilla chefs Shayne Mansfield, Paul Niddrie and Jess Brooks. The cuisine was matched with the latest 2018 Burgundy vintages from Domaine Albert Bichot and Champagne Vadin-Plateau. Mr Dryden said that although it was not possible to travel to France now, the lunch provided “a rare opportunity to celebrate the best of French wine and cuisine”.
