COVID-19 put an end to that and instead Thomson was in Newcastle on Saturday as a guest speaker at a Gallic wine-themed lunch, featuring French cuisine and wines from Burgundy and Champagne. . The sold-out event at Flotilla restaurant in Wickham was hosted by specialist French wine importers Decante This and Flotilla. Decante This Founder and CEO Leigh Dryden and Ms Thomson hosted the three-course lunch prepared by Flotilla chefs Shayne Mansfield, Paul Niddrie and Jess Brooks. The cuisine was matched with the latest 2018 Burgundy vintages from Domaine Albert Bichot and Champagne Vadin-Plateau. Mr Dryden said that although it was not possible to travel to France now, the lunch provided “a rare opportunity to celebrate the best of French wine and cuisine”. IN OTHER NEWS: Thomson is a professional wine events host, author, writer and wine tour leader and in 2013, 2016 and last year she won the Digital Communicator of the Year award from Wine Communicators Australia . She founded the Fabulous Ladies’ Wine Society to increase gender diversity in the wine industry and, to provide female role models, created the AWIWA. Previous awards shows have been held in London and New York and the sixth annual awards 2020 are in the process of being decided. The finalists have just been announced, with Hunter’s Lisa Margan of Margan Estate in Broke as one of three contenders for the Owner-Operator of the Year category. The other finalists in the category are Melissa Brown of Gemtree Wines and Laura Carter – Unico Zelo.
