A total of 44 confirmed cases of COVID-19 are linked to a two-day marriage in Vaughan dating back to mid-October.
In a statement released by York Region Public Health, more than 100 people attended a big wedding at the Avani Event Center, between October 14 and October 18.
Of the residents exposed to the virus, five are confirmed to be from York Region, while 39 are from outside the region, according to York Region Public Health.
Those who attended the wedding are considered to be at high risk of exposure because a public notice of the outbreak has been issued.
The York Region Public Health Department said it was notified of the first confirmed case on Monday, October 26. .
At the time of the wedding, York Region was in Stage 3 of the provincial government’s plan to reopen. The banquet halls followed certain guidelines such as the total capacity for indoor meetings or events limited to 50 people.
On October 19, York Region reverted to the amended Stage 2 restrictions. This reduced social gatherings to 10 or fewer people indoors and 25 or fewer people outdoors.
