Wout van Aert won an explosive seventh stage of the Tour de France at Lavaur as Adam Yates clung to the yellow jersey in strong cross winds.Jumbo-Visma’s Van Aert claimed his second Tour stage victory as crosswinds swept through the peloton in the final hour of the race, with Tadej Pogacar, Mikel Landa, Richie Porte and Richard Carapaz among the overall contenders for lose 80 seconds in the splits.

The 168km stage went at a fierce pace as Peter Sagan’s Bora-Hansgrohe team knocked the hammer down as they left Millau, dropping the sprinters to allow the former world champion to s ‘seize the green jersey of the points leader from Irishman Sam Bennett.

The Tour continues on Saturday with the 140 km race from Cazères-sur-Garonne to Loudenvielle and ends in Paris on September 20 with the 122 km stage from Mantes-la-Jolie to Paris Champs-Élysées.
