United States Fire Map: Apocalyptic wildfires are burning the size of the Connecticut area – where are the fires now? | World | News

In Oregon, an unprecedented wave of fierce, wind-blown fires nearly destroyed five small towns. These fierce fires have potentially left a huge death toll in their wake, reports say.

Winds of up to 50 mph pushed the flames at a speed of 10 miles within hours, engulfing hundreds of homes.

Firefighters have had to deal with at least 35 large fires in Oregon, which amassed a collective land mass twice the size of New York City.

A red flag warning is the highest alert for events that could lead to major fires and this warning has been implemented for Jackson County, Oregon, where the Almeda fire destroyed hundreds of houses.

Only 50 percent of current forest fires in the region remain contained.
