UFC 253: Jon Jones threatens to “go back and grab my belt real quick”

What’s going on with Jon Jones these days? Is it moving towards the heavyweights or is it a return of the light heavyweights in the cards?

That was the question reporters posed to UFC president Dana White after UFC 253, which saw Jan Blachowicz win the vacant 205-pound title with a solid second-round knockout victory over Dominick Reyes (watch highlights here).

“You know as much as I know about Jon Jones,” White said at the post-event press conference.

Whether it’s true that White didn’t bother to check with the top GOAT candidate or whether that’s more “lies” as Conor McGregor puts it is unclear. Maybe Jon Jones doesn’t even know it at this point, as he’s certainly involved the two recently.

After Blachowicz’s victory over Reyes, Jones praised the new Polish champion before suggesting he could return for his belt.

Blachowicz didn’t seem particularly impressed with Jones’ comment on Twitter, triggering this response:

And while White was unwilling to let his hand fall on what was going on behind the scenes at the oft-troubled superstar “Bones,” he gave Jan props to call Jones after his win and suggested he give it a long time. to the old. light heavyweight champion a shot at his old title should be what he really wanted.

“I love that he wants to fight Jon,” White said. “You know he could have called whatever the next contender is and the fact that these guys respect Jones enough and the fact that they want to be the guy who beats the guy, I love that.

“Obviously, if Jon Jones wanted this fight, we wouldn’t deny Jon Jones this opportunity.”
