Tour de France 2020: Lotto Soudal “surpassed” at the Tour de France 2020: Ewan

Ewan said the team were overwhelmed as they approached the iconic home stretch with just five Lotto Soudal men remaining, seventh place all he could handle with Sam Bennett (Deceuninck-QuickStep) sealing his green jersey with a victory on the Champs-Élysées.The team lost Philippe Gilbert and John Degenkolb on stage 1, Gilbert retiring after an accident and the German finishing out of time also due to a bingle, and Stef Cras a DNF on stage 9.

“Like I said before,” Ewan said after the last stop. “It’s a sprint and sometimes you win and sometimes you lose and next time we’ll do better. We will analyze what went wrong and next time we will get there.

“It was just that we had limited guys so we had to take a little more risk, you know, just sit in the wheels a little bit more. ”

“And when you take those risks then sometimes you’re overwhelmed sometimes you’re locked in and that’s what happened today and we kinda locked ourselves in and couldn’t get in early enough.” ”

But New South Welshman has said the 2020 Tour de France is still a success for him and Lotto Soudal.

“Overall we can consider the Tour a good one. Two stage victories. My fifth victory for the team in the Tour.

“So I think we did a really good job, especially since there were six of us at the start, then five guys after a few more days.

“I think we’ve gone beyond what we had here. “
