Cycling footage gave a glimpse of when an AG2R rider crashed at the Tour de France and finished the stage on Julian Alaphilippe’s spare bike.
The ninth stage of the 2020 Tour was an absolute classic day of racing, which saw Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates) take the stage despite a heroic solo effort from Marc Hirsc and hi (Sunweb).
But there were a lot of moments inside the peloton that you might have missed including an unusual crash in the last 3km of the stage towards Laruns.
AG2R La Mondiale rider Mikaël Cherel was involved in a crash with Quick-Step’s Deceuninck – Bob Jungels in the last moments of the stage, leaving him stranded with a damaged motorcycle just before the finish line.
But luckily for the Frenchman, the Deceuninck car was on hand and after putting Bob Jungels back on the bike, the team staff kindly helped Cherel.
Thanks to cycling video footage recorded by racing tech company Velon, we can see the moment from Jungels’ on-board camera.
In the compilation of video clips from inside the ninth stage peloton, you can see the moment when Jungels and Cherel were involved in an accident with a Movistar driver.
Cherel declared at the end of the stage: “Good legs to conclude the first week of the Tour de France.
“Thanks to Deceuninck – Quick-Step who allowed me to reach the finish on Julian Alaphilippe’s rescue bike following an unfortunate fall less than 3 km from the finish.
The video also shows some astute bike handling skills of Matteo Trentin (team CCC) as he jumped down a sidewalk to pass the peloton and launch an attack and new angles of the sprint finish as Pogacar took the win. .
