Go on the moon is not a joke. In other words, unless you’re a trio of stranded has-beens living in the wilderness trying to prove to NASA that you are worthy of making the trip.

This is the configuration for Moon base 8, a new series on Showtime on November 8. It stars Fred Armisen, Tim Heidecker and John C. Reilly like the unlikely astronauts who attempt to live and operate on a simulated moon base in the Arizona desert. We have already seen this scenario –Steve Carell Space force did an episode on it recently– but rarely with that total embrace of comical absurdity. Check out the trailer below.

Moon base 8 was co-created by Heidecker and Jonathan Krisel, who worked together for years on all Tim et Eric spectacles. Reilly and Armisen have both appeared on these shows, so their inclusion here makes sense. The big difference, however, is that these shows still have a deliberately cheap and cheesy aesthetic, which is not the case with Moon base 8. I’m very interested in how weird it is Tim et Eric humor intersects in a much brighter production. But if a trio of comedic actors can do it, these are the three.

Moon base 8 lands on Showtime on November 8.
