A legendary Calgary restaurant and club might hang up.
An MLS listing for the Ranchman’s Cookhouse & Dancehall building, located at 9615 Macleod Trail SE, was released Saturday by Calgary real estate agent Rob Campbell, announcing the property as available for rent “for the first time in its history.” .
Two rental signs are also appearing outside Calgary’s 17,000 square foot waterhole. A sign reads “temporarily closed” and the company’s phone line is not active.
Ranchman’s has been synonymous with Western Calgary culture since it opened on April 27, 1972, almost 50 years ago.
The popular country nightclub draws large crowds during the Calgary Stampede and throughout the year. It has been named “Country Club of the Year” by the Canadian Country Music Association 11 times.
The COVID-19 pandemic forced Ranchman’s to temporarily close its doors on March 17, and it has remained closed since. The Ranchman and other nightclubs are not allowed to reopen until Stage 3 of the Alberta Relaunch.
Ownership of the venue was recently swapped in 2017, when Calgary bar scene mainstay Doug Rasberry bought the property alongside a group of local business owners.
Representatives for Ranchman could not be reached immediately for comment.
