French police raided hotel rooms occupied by Arkéa-Samsic on Wednesday evening during the Tour de France, according to information published in Sunday NewspaperandThe team.Team leader Emmanuel Hubert confirmed that the search took place when he was contacted by The team, but declined to comment further. The sports daily reports that Nairo Quintana was the target of the raid, which was carried out by officers of the Central Office for the Fight against Threats to the Environment and Public Health (OCLAESP).
According to The team, police also searched the rooms of Colombian runners Dayer Quintana and Winner Anacona, as well as team trainers and team cars. Arkéa-Samsic was staying near Méribel, after stage 17 up to the Loze pass. The raid, which was carried out as part of a preliminary investigation, was not organized in cooperation with the French Anti-Doping Agency (AFLD).
Quintana joined Arkéa-Samsic before the 2020 season after seven years at Movistar. He was joined in the French team by his brother Dayer and his compatriot Anacona. Quintana started his time with Arkéa-Samsic with five victories in the first weeks of the season.
This winning streak placed Quintana among the contenders for Tour victory, although its preparation was hampered by a training accident in Colombia in July. He crashed again during the 13th stage of the Tour and his podium challenge collapsed on the Grand Colombier two days later.
Quintana reached Paris in 17th place overall, its lowest ranking in a Grand Tour since the 2012 Vuelta a España.
