The first version of the VW ID.4 electric SUV sold out on the first day

VW has announced that the first version of its ID.4 electric SUV sold out on the first day of order opening.VW finally unveiled the ID.4 in full on Wednesday after months of teasing.

The vehicle was well received.

While it has been toned down from the concept with a more traditional design, the specs for the price have impressed a lot and this pushes all-electric vehicles into a larger market.

Now Volkswagen USA has announced that the ID.4 First Edition sells out within 8 hours of opening orders:

While this is impressive, we were told that VW only plans to offer “a few thousand first edition models” in the United States.

The version of the ID.4 started at $ 43,995 before incentives and will ship later this year.

Now, new buyers will have to look to the $ 39,995 ID.4 Pro, which includes fewer design improvements and will ship in early 2021.

The vehicle is equipped with an 82 kWh battery (77 kWh of usable energy) which should result in approximately 250 miles of EPA range.

An even cheaper version with a smaller battery with likely a range closer to 200 miles is expected to launch in 2022 after VW began production of the ID.4 in the United States.

For now, the North American market will get ID.4 electric SUVs made in Germany.
