PARIS (AP) – Activists have revived the French yellow vests movement after disruptive protests against Emmanuel Macron’s presidency and perceived elitism has abated during the coronavirus pandemic. Paris police say more than 25 people have been taken into custody so far in the French capital. Organizers hope Saturday’s one-day marches will attract thousands of participants. The Parisian authorities have designated areas such as the Avenue des Champs-Élysées prohibited. The yellow vests movement started in the fall of 2018 to protest against an increase in the fuel tax that would punish the poorest French people. Named for the fluorescent vests motorists are required to wear in France, it has turned into more than a year of weekly anti-government protests that have resulted in multiple deaths.
