The world was shocked by the death of Chadwick Boseman in August, following a private four-year battle with colon cancer. In the wake of the untimely loss, many of Boseman’s friends, co-stars and fans have paid tribute to the late actor, shedding light on his good heart and the legacy he leaves behind.
In a new interview with Empire, Sienna Miller reveals that it was Boseman who fought for her to be chosen 21 bridges, and he went out of his way to make sure she would get paid appropriately for the movie they both starred in. “I didn’t know whether to tell this story or not, and I haven’t yet. But I’ll say it, because I think that’s a testament to who he was, ”she notes.
Miller recalls that Boseman, who was the producer of the 2019 film, intended to get her to join the cast despite her apprehension about taking another job. “He was a fan of my work, which was exciting, because he was tenfold from me to him,” she explains. “So he approached me to do it, he offered me this film, and it was at a time when I really didn’t want to work anymore. I had worked tirelessly and was exhausted, but then wanted to work with him.
Explaining why she remained hesitant to join the project, Miller continues, “It was a big budget movie, and I know everyone understands the pay gap in Hollywood, but I asked for a number the studio wouldn’t come up with. not. And because I was reluctant to go back to work and my daughter was starting school and it was not the right time, I said, ‘I will do it if I am compensated in the right way.

Because his desired pay was, as Miller said, beyond what the studio would accept, Boseman decided to cut his own pay on the film to increase his pay. “Chadwick ended up donating part of his salary to bring me back to the number I asked for,” Miller explains. “He said it was what I deserved to be paid for. “
According to Miller, this kind of generosity is quite unexpected, if not unheard of in the film industry. “That sort of thing just doesn’t happen. He said, “You are paid what you deserve and what you are worth. It is simply unfathomable to imagine another man in this town behaving with such grace or respect. Afterwards I told this story to other male actor friends and they all go really, really calm and go home and probably have to sit and think about things for a while. But there was no clairvoyance, it was, ‘Sure, I’m going to get you to that number, because that’s what you should be paid for.’
This sense of selflessness was, we have come to learn, an integral part of Boseman’s character, and even now he continues to inspire people in Hollywood and beyond with his gracious spirit. He has – in more than one way – left a lasting and meaningful impression on us, both through his on-screen characters, his off-screen wit and relentless integrity.
