Here are your Aston Villa morning headlines for Friday, September 18.

Werder chief confirms Rashica’s interest

Werder Bremen transfer chief Frank Baumann has confirmed for the first time that Aston Villa is in the race to sign wing assistant Milot Rashica.

The Kosovar international appears to be heading for the exit door with Werder for £ 20million for last season’s star player.

Speaking at a press conference ahead of the Bundesliga opening game, Baumann said: “There are several stakeholders, Aston Villa being one of them. As repeatedly pointed out, there is still a chance that Milot Rashica will be a Werder player on October 5th. ”

The German club added Manchester United’s Tahith Chong on loan earlier this summer as a direct replacement for Rashica this week training individually and away from the first-team squad ahead of this weekend’s clash against Hertha Berlin. Rashica, an eight-goal scorer last season, also missed the Werder Cup game last weekend.

Villa, meanwhile, first showed interest in the 24-year-old last summer and inquired again in January. Werder, however, declined to listen to the offers because, like Villa, they were waging a relegation battle.

Villa gave Benrahma a boost

Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson has spoken of his side’s interest in Brentford winger Said Benrahma.

Benrahma has also been linked with a move to Aston Villa as well as Premier League rivals Arsenal and Chelsea.

The Algeria international is said to be set to seal a move to Palace, with reports over the weekend claiming the Selhurst Park side were trying to secure a £ 20million deal for the 25-year-old.

Now, Hodgson has publicly stated his team’s supposed interest in Benrahma, with a deal that doesn’t look as close as it has been over the weekend.

Eye of West Brom Samatta

West Bromwich Albion have been linked with a surprise move by Villa Mbwana striker Samatta.

Samatta, 27, was a £ 8.5million arrival at Villa Park from Belgian club Genk in the January transfer window after finishing top scorer in the Pro League in the 2018/19 season.

He provided a much needed boost to Dean Smith’s attacking options after Wesley Moraes suffered a long-term knee injury in the Burnley victory on New Years Day.

But with Villa breaking their transfer record to land Ollie Watkins from Brentford – and planning to bring in another – Samatta appears to be in excess of needs.

He’s been heavily linked with a move to Turkey, which Fenerbahce and Besiktas are keen on, but The Sun reports that Albion wants to ‘hijack’ his move there and take him to the Hawthorns instead.
