Tatum and Ryan, who both had battles with drug addiction, had a famous and unstable relationship that resulted in a falling out that lasted for almost 25 years.
They began restoring their broken relationship in 2011, which was captured, in part, in the short-lived Oprah Winfrey Network Ryan and Tatum: The O’Neals.

However, the volatility of their relationship seems to have surfaced once again, as Tatum revealed in 2018 that she wanted to reconcile with her father.
She said on Megyn Kelly Today, she said, “I want to tell my dad, if you look at this, I love you. I have always loved you and forgiveness is the best policy.
The veteran actress continued, “I don’t want to hold onto the anger and resentment. I want to have a free, happy and guilt-free life.
“My dad has done a lot of good for me and I just have to respect his life and his process. Maybe one day he and I will have a time when we [reconcile]».

One of Tatum and Ryan’s most bizarre encounters came in 2009, when they both attended the funeral of his former partner Farrah Fawcett.
Ryan admitted to flirting with his daughter – whose mother is Joanna Moore – in the service without knowing who she was.
He explained, “I had just put the coffin in the hearse and I was watching it go, when a beautiful blonde woman comes up and kisses me.
“I said to him: ‘Do you have a drink on you? You have a car? She said, “Daddy, it’s me – Tatum!” ”
Sad: Despite a phenomenal start to his career, Tatum endured many years of drug addiction
The A Bridge Too Far actor admitted that the surreal incident embodied their complex relationship.
Ryan – who has been estranged from his daughter for decades – said, “It’s our relationship in a nutshell. You do with it what you want.
In her 2004 autobiography, A Paper Life, Tatum alleged that she was assaulted by her father’s drug dealer when she was just 12 years old.
Among the explosive allegations in her book were allegations that she suffered physical and emotional abuse at the hands of her father, blaming her own drug use.
However, her famous father denied the allegations, saying in a statement, “It is a sad day when malicious lies are told in order to become a ‘bestseller’. “
Reaching Out: In February, Tatum sent his dad, Ryan, a touching Valentine’s Day message
However, things have obviously been a lot smoother between the two, as Tatum sent his dad a Valentine’s Day message amid his health issues.
The actress shared an adorable photo of herself and her father laughing hysterically as they sat next to each other on the front porch of a house.
“I found a photo of us in better times,” she began in her long and moving caption.
“I want to tell you that I am me because of you, and I mean all of my qualities,” continued the former child star.
“The way I taught my kids the joy of irony and how to love. The ability to laugh at ourselves. Love of movies.

And then, referring to their two-decade estrangement, she added, “I wish things were different and I could have made choices that you could be more proud of. I have to live with myself and be proud of the woman I am today for better or for worse.
She ended her heartfelt post by confessing that all she wanted was “for you to feel my love for you and know that there are no pre-existing reasons except that I love you.” !! Just know that! Baby Mozart at your feet. Love your daughter.
The Valentine’s Day greetings came two days after Tatum posted a now deleted photo of his father looking gaunt as he received treatment for his heart while Tatum watched.
“With my legendary father !! Trying to mend his heart !! Tatum wrote, with two broken heart emojis and two sparkling heart emojis.
