Time is running out for Leeds United to strengthen their squad before the transfer window closes. Monday, October 5 will see the window close for Premier League clubs attempting to recruit foreign players.

At the time of writing, Leeds have already made transfers of five overseas players this summer, signing Illan Meslier permanently, young goalkeeper Dani van den Heuvel following his exit from Ajax, the defender of SC Friborg Robin Koch, young Feyenoord Crysencio Summerville and Valencia striker Rodrigo. Real Sociedad center-back Diego Llorente is expected to bring that total to six soon as his move to Elland Road draws closer and closer to its conclusion.

But with less than two weeks before the window closes for clubs looking to sign foreign players, Leeds face a race against time to try to strike a deal with Udinese midfielder Rodrigo De Paul .

The Argentina midfielder has been heavily linked with a move to Elland Road in recent weeks as head coach Marcelo Bielsa aims to strengthen his midfield options.

The 26-year-old, formerly from Valencia, can play either wide or in the middle, which will present Bielsa without running out of options in the engine room.

Although Leeds continue to seek his signing, they have yet to achieve a breakthrough in negotiations with Udinese with the Serie A club reluctant to let him go. Earlier this week it was reported that Udinese were determined to keep their hands on the midfield ace despite continued interest from Leeds.

Despite ongoing speculation about his immediate future, De Paul continued to train with Udinese ahead of their Serie A opener of the campaign.

On Wednesday, however, he took to social media to share a photo of himself in training with the caption “Continuiamo a Spingere !,” which translates to “We keep pushing”.

Although De Paul simply hinted that he aimed to continue training before the start of the season, some white fans believe he may have been referring to the ongoing negotiations regarding a possible move to Elland Road. . This is likely due to his recent social media activity, which saw him engage with Leeds fanzine The Square Ball on Twitter, when he not so subtly hinted that he wanted to join the club.

De Paul is still believed to be a prime target for Whites ahead of the deadline, but Udinese’s demands could prevent Leeds from closing a deal.
