NEW YORK (WABC) – Organizers of the New Year’s Eve celebration in Times Square say they are planning a virtually enhanced celebration that will bring Times Square and The Ball to people digitally, no matter where they are. and socially remote have yet to be determined, officials said.An extremely small group of in-person, socially distanced winners will reflect the themes, challenges and inspirations of 2020.

“People around the world are ready to join New Yorkers in welcoming the New Year with the iconic Ball Drop. I congratulate the Times Square Alliance, Jamestown Properties and Countdown Entertainment for finding a safe, creative and innovative way for all of us to continue to celebrate this century-old tradition. A new year means a new beginning, and we are delighted to celebrate, ”said Mayor Bill de Blasio.

“There will be dramatically new and improved virtual, visual and digital offerings to complement the limited live entertainment or experiences – still in development – taking place in Times Square,” Tim Tompkins, president of Times Square Alliance, who is co-producing the event with Countdown Entertainment, said.

The owner of One Times Square, Jamestown, home to the New Year’s Eve ball, has created the virtual world of Times Square and a companion streaming app to let everyone experience Times Square and celebrate with us in these unusual times. .

Organizers noted that as years passed, the year’s news, people and pop culture will be incorporated into the celebration.

“More details to come; Either way, we’ll be celebrating with you in one form or another on the 31st, ”Tompkins said.
