The Detroit Red Wings have loaned forward Michael Rasmussen to the Graz 99ers of the ICE Hockey League, Austria’s top professional league, the team announced on Wednesday.

The ninth selection in the 2017 NHL Draft accumulated 22 points in 35 games for the Grand Rapids Griffins in 2019-2020, the Red Wings’ AHL affiliate.

Rasmussen – a six-foot-six, 221-pound pivot – also spent 62 games with Detroit in 2018-19, accumulating eight goals and 10 assists.

The decision to loan Rasmussen, 21, from Surrey, BC, to the Austrian club likely comes in light of the revised AHL start date, which is now slated for December 4, 2020, after the forced cancellation of the league. its 2019-20 season following the COVID-19 pandemic. The 2020-21 ICE Hockey League season kicks off Friday.
