RCAF cyberattack four times larger than originally thought

The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) has discovered that a total of 48,500 CRA accounts are acting suspiciously. In August, the CRA closed its online portal and reported that 11,200 accounts had been compromised. Now it has been revealed in a CTV News report that the hackers may have accessed the CRA website months before they were caught, and may have assigned many more accounts than initially expected.

In a statement to CTV News, a government official said he was working to educate compromised users and uncover the damage caused by the hack. Anyone who has had their account hacked will receive a letter in the mail explaining how to recover their account.

Right now there’s not much Canadians can do unless they’ve been hacked and need their account recovered.
