The Chinese Defense Ministry announced on Friday that it would conduct “Caucus 2020” military exercises alongside Russia and Iran. According to the Chinese state-run Global Times, Beijing hopes to use the joint exercises with Russia as a way to strengthen diplomatic and strategic cooperation between Moscow and Beijing. The military exercises that cause anxiety in the West will run through next week.
India, which also has close military ties with Russia, has pulled out of upcoming exercises due to its ongoing disputes with China and Pakistan.
The Indian Ministry of Defense attributed its decision to logistical “difficulties”.
The exercises will further alienate New Delhi and provide more reasons to strengthen US-Indian relations.
However, India has been accused of “childishness” by Beijing-based military expert Li Jie.
Speaking to Chinese state tabloid Global Times, Li said that “India has shown its childishness in quitting because of China, and that she is concerned that China’s presence overshadows its role.”
The planned exercises have increased the tensions in the fragile balance of power of the world powers.

China intends to send its elite troops from its Western command division to the strategic military exercise.
Russia recently expanded its military strength.
In November, Moscow ordered the deployment of an unprecedented number of submarines from its Northern Fleet.
These included sea trials of its latest Yasen-class submarine, the Kazen, a 13,800-ton nuclear vessel, which will eventually carry 40 Kailbr-M cruise missiles.
