As the Packers and Saints work out without their wide receiver on Sunday night, both teams leaned on their running backs and a heavy dose of short, quick throws. The only big play in the first half came on an absolutely gorgeous pass from Aaron Rodgers to Allen Lazard, who set up a touchdown at Lazard later in the player. Rodgers finished the first half 9 of 16 for 104 yards and the score to Lazard, who as the big winner came on a concept of bootleg play-action.For the Saints, Alvin Kamara did almost all the damage, carrying the rock four times for 56 yards and shooting seven passes for another 61 yards and a touchdown. Drew Brees seemed reluctant to throw the ball into the field, preferring instead to check the targets he was most comfortable with. Still, those shorter passes allowed the Saints to move the ball at a decent pace, and the last of the half actually helped them shoot in front despite a rough start. With just six seconds left, Brees found Emmanuel Sanders in the middle for Sanders’ first score as a Saint, putting New Orleans 17-13 ahead at the break.
