Ottawa reports 82 new coronavirus cases: provincial data – Ottawa


The surge in coronavirus infections in Ottawa continues Thursday with 82 new cases of COVID-19 reported through the provincial database.The latest daily increase is the second largest spike in cases in Ottawa so far in the pandemic, surpassed only by the 93 cases reported on Tuesday.

No new deaths from the novel coronavirus were reported Thursday in Ottawa, according to the Department of Health’s COVID-19 dashboard.

The latest weekly epidemiology report from Ottawa Public Health (OPH) shows that the second wave of the virus in the nation’s capital was already setting grim records before this week’s spike in cases.

The local public health unit report shows that the week of September 14-20 saw the highest number of new cases reported since the start of the pandemic, with 385 people testing positive for the virus.

This represents an increase from 244 cases the previous week and surpasses the previous record of 331 cases set the week of April 20.

OPH will release its more comprehensive daily report on the novel coronavirus later Thursday afternoon.

The PHO report will occasionally revise the case numbers provided earlier in the day in the provincial database due to reporting delays.
