Ollie Watkins responds to viral Aston Villa transfer theory

‘It wasn’t me, boy’ was Ollie Watkins’ quick response to a viral photo circling social media involving Aston Villa boss Dean Smith and his staff in the back room driving a meeting at a local pub. Assistants John Terry and Craig Shakespeare can be seen alongside Smith and his team in a private room in a country pub after a training session at Bodymoor Heath.

The devious snapshot was circulated on all social media platforms but, after being posted by @_Villa_news_ on Instagram, the well-documented transfer target Watkins was quick to respond after being tagged in the image.

The caption read: “Matty Cash and Ollie Watkins spotted in the Fig and Olive with Aston Villa back office staff…”.

Watkins, 24, who was excluded from Brentford’s third straight preseason friendly today against Oxford, replied: “It wasn’t me, boy. With two crying face emojis.

Watkins, of course, remains Villa’s top priority with Brentford valuing last year’s league player at £ 25million. The Bees, however, have since shelled out a seven-figure fee to bring in League 1 shooter Ivan Toney from Peterborough.

As for today’s viral snap, Smith and his back room team enjoyed a quiet pint while dissecting their last training session, goals and hopes for the season ahead.

Despite numerous reports, our colleagues at NottinghamshireLive have informed us that Villa has yet to make a deal to sign Forest right-back Matty Cash, valued at £ 15million.
