Canada’s main stock index plunged more than 300 points early in the session, while US stock markets also fell.
The S & P / TSX Composite Index fell 338.10 points to 15,860.87.
In New York, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 594.43 points to 27,062.99. The S&P 500 Index was down 63.95 points to 3,255.52, while the Nasdaq composite was down 190.37 points to 10,602.91.
The Canadian dollar traded at 75.42 US cents compared to 75.84 US cents on Friday.
The November crude contract fell 95 cents to US $ 40.37 per barrel and the October natural gas contract fell nearly 13 cents to US $ 1.92 per mmBTU.
The December gold contract fell US $ 39.40 to US $ 1,922.70 per ounce and the December copper contract fell just over two cents to US $ 3.09 the pound.
