New COVID-19 infections in France again above 7,000


PARIS – French health authorities on Wednesday reported 7,017 new confirmed cases of coronavirus, up sharply from Tuesday’s figure of 4,982, and the third time since the start of the epidemic that the daily tally is over 7,000.

The number of people hospitalized for the disease, although still well below its April 14 high of 32,292, rose for the fifth day in a row, to 4,632.

The number of people who have died in France from COVID-19 infections has increased from 25 to 30,686, and the cumulative number of cases now stands at 293,024.
