Maguire and Lindelof have proven United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s favorite couple over the past two seasons.
However, the pair came under attack for their roles in United. 3-1 loss to Crystal Palace on Saturday.
Indeed, speaking on Sky Sports’ comments during the game, Neville insisted that United had to find a new addition.

Analyzing Wilfried Zaha’s second strike, he claimed that Maguire and Lindelof didn’t have the crucial element of rhythm.
” Well, I believe [Zaha’s] beat those two Manchester United center-backs all day, ”Neville said. “He has them exactly where he wants them. He’s just not strong enough, Lindelof. It’s a 50/50. It is weak.
“You can talk about Jadon Sancho as much as you want, but until they have a center-back who can run and defend one-on-one, you’re never going to win a league.
“They won’t win the league with this center-back duo. They must have a mobile, fast and dominant central defender alongside Lindelof or Maguire. Their defense has been better since Christmas, no doubt, but you’re talking about leveling up.
Neville added that a quick center-half has been a key characteristic of great United sides of the past.
“If you look at all of the best partnerships with the center-back over the years, they’ve always had a quick partnership,” he said (via the Subway).
“Old Trafford is a big field and especially if your full-backs advance you will leave your middle halves one-on-one.
“Over the years, Man United’s best center-back partnerships have always had this very quick partnership – whether it’s Jaap Stam or Rio Ferdinand or Gary Pallister – that has a blistering pace to get through and stifle danger.
“Lindelof and Maguire just don’t have that.
