With smoky conditions persisting in southern British Columbia, mask wear appears to be on the rise.

But are people wearing face masks because of the harmful smoke from wildfires in California, Oregon and Washington state – or are they doing it because of COVID-19?

With two great reasons to cover your face when you leave home, we’re taking to the streets to find out what’s the deciding factor for you.

Poor air quality is expected to continue in the region, with a return to thicker smoke on Wednesday and Thursday after improving slightly on Tuesday.

In the longer term, conditions should improve considerably by next week, according to Environment Canada.
