But Arteta acknowledged that Liverpool remain the standard bearers in England and explained what sets them apart.
“We are on a different path for them,” said the Arsenal boss. “They’ve been together for five years.
“They couldn’t do what they did tonight two or three years ago, that’s for sure.
“They did a lot of good work. They have a lot of confidence in the way they play, they have had a great recruiting and have improved the players they have.

“This is what we have to try to do. They set the bar, possibly the best standard we’ve seen in many years. We still have a long way to go. ”
After Alexandre Lacazette gave Arsenal the lead against the run of play, Liverpool responded with first-half goals from Sadio Mane and Andy Robertson before substitute Diogo Jota secured the game late.

And Arteta was left out on the streets a second half when Lacazette was turned down by Alisson Becker during the cleanup.
“It’s obviously a really tough place to come,” he said. “It’s a very good team. We stayed in the game most of the game.
“Having the lead I think we should have handled it a little better, we conceded too early. We competed throughout the game knowing we would have a tough time at Anfield, but with the belief that we could get something out of the game.
“When we had a good chance to go 2-2, we didn’t score. If you want something from here, you have to take those risks. ”
