Welcome to Midnight Mania!
There is a ton of hype surrounding the main event of UFC 253, which pits deft kickboxer Israel Adesanya against towering Brazilian Paulo Costa in a clash of undefeated fighters. The style match guarantees fun, but another important aspect of all the excitement is the seemingly endless war of words between the two.
The number of times Adesanya has accused Costa of juice is only equal to the number of frequent occasions Costa calls out his skinny foe. Seriously, the two have been kicking out different variations of the same insulted couple over and over for months now!
Maybe that’s why Costa was so surprised when his first encounter on Fight Island with Adesanya went … smoothly!
“I don’t know what happened, he changed his personality a lot, his personality,” Costa explained. “The Adesanya I saw on the video conference was a very disrespectful guy, he showed me his fingers a lot. But when I met him upstairs, he was very nice, very nice.
“I was expecting a different type of guy. He came over and gave his hand to shake, asked how I feel, “How are you feeling, are you feeling good?” He said, “Yeah, you looked great, I like it. What you want? But that’s fine, if he changes, okay.
Considering that “Stylebender” has competed over 100 times in professional combat sports, it might not come as a shock that Adesanya can maintain his cool with an opponent behind the scenes. Fortunately, neither of the two men will appear too “nice” once the cage door is closed on Saturday night.
Fight week has arrived! I’m keeping the list of names open until fight day, so for anyone who reads who likes my writing and wants to support / participate in the raffle, $ 5 or more puts your user / nickname / real name on the banner . I have Venmo (AndyLRichardson), PayPal ([email protected]) and a GoFundMe.
HERE is the PPV feed link for anyone interested. Like always. I will also write up my experience as soon as possible after the fight.
Patrick Cummins with the essential healthy post from the story of this column:
Does Colby Covington’s shtick work? It may be on its way to becoming a real draw!
UFC Fight Night, headlining Colby Covington-Tyrone Woodley, drew over a million unique viewers to ESPN + on Saturday, sources say @TheAthletic. A lot on its own, but especially given the NBA Eastern Conference Finals and Stanley Cup Finals that night.

A smooth reversal:
Mike Perry booked a fight, but I mainly included this post because of the Avatar filter.
Watching tall shadowbox boxers is always interesting, as they often have varying approaches.
Khamzat Chimaev intercepted Stephen Thompson’s very first call. I would watch it!
I can see why Weili Zhang is such a fan of Tony Ferguson – they both love weird workouts!
Briefs, rips and knockout clips
A good right hand at an angle:
It’s definitely Paulo Costa’s young music video week. He’s been aggressive since day one, but “Borrachinha” has come a long way technically!
Saenchai is back in action this weekend!
An intimidating chasm:
Midnight Music: One of the people who donated to the banner recommended me the only studio album from Mad Season, a certified grunge super group. Good product!
