COOPER CITY, Floride – One car overturned and caught fire, the other was badly damaged Sunday after a collision at the intersection of Griffin Road and Southwest 118th Ave.
Miami Dade Police Captain Tyrone White was killed in the crash. His wife, Lisa, was also in the car. On Sunday evening, she was in critical condition.
White is the father of New England Patriots running back and Fort Lauderdale native James White, who learned of the tragic crash 90 minutes before Sunday’s road game against the Seattle Seahawks. He was listed by the Patriots as inactive for the game for personal reasons.
According to Broward County Sheriff’s Deputies, the crash happened around 1:01 p.m. in the 11800 block of Griffin Road. Two vehicles were involved, but it is not known which car the Whites were in or how the collision occurred. BSO Air Rescue transported two of the three victims.
Tyrone White, the third victim, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation and BSO said it would release more information as it becomes available.
