Viewers of The Great British Bake Off 2020 got more than they expected, when they listened to the first episode, which finally premiered on Tuesday night. The episode had been delayed as Prime Minister Boris Johnson delivered a coronavirus message to the nation, amid new lockdown rules and restrictions.

Amid an increase in Covid-19 cases in the UK, Boris spoke to the public and advised them on the new rules to be put in place.

But viewers have been waiting for Bake Off for so long, and just couldn’t hide their displeasure that the show was delayed and the message played in its slot.

So when the show finally started on the channel, viewers were forced to double the take when Boris returned to the screen behind his famous podium.

From debating the correct way to pronounce scones, to telling people to ‘bake in a tent if they want to, but don’t bake in a tent,’ fans hailed him as’ genius. “.
