A week after declaring that “ACKNOWLEDGMENT IS CANCELED,” Mariah Carey has resurfaced with her next most shocking revelation memoir yet. In a Sunday tweet, the singer said she would relax from her 1995 Dream moonlight sessions as an alternative rocker with the band Chick. As reported by Pitchfork, Carey wrote, produced and sang background vocals on every song on Chick’s album in 1995, Someone’s ugly daughter although she was not credited at the time.

“Fun fact: I did an alternate album while I was doing Dream, ” she wrote. “Just for fun, but it got me through some dark days. Accompanying the tweet is a 40-second clip of the song “Hermit,” which, she says, presents her backing vocals as a “hidden layer.”

“I’m so happy but really amused that my petitalternative ‘/’ grunge ‘album is finally available to fans,” she wrote in a follow-up tweet.

As Rolling stone points out, Someone’s ugly daughter was designed in part by Jay Healy, a longtime Carey collaborator who also designed Dream. Carey, it turns out, was Flatmates with Chick lead singer Clarissa Dane.

“I would bring my little alternative rock song to the band and hum a silly guitar riff,” reads the excerpt. “They would pick it up and we would register it immediately. It was irreverent, raw and urgent, and the band got down to it.

It continues:

I started to like some of the songs. I would fully commit to my character. I was playing in the style of the fat, punk-light white female singers that were popular at the time. You know those who seemed so carefree with their feelings and their image. They could be angry, angry, and messy, with old shoes, crumpled slips, and unruly eyebrows, yet every move I made was so calculated and neat. I wanted to break free, let go and express my misery – but I also wanted to laugh. I was really looking forward to doing my alter-ego group sessions after Dream each night.

In a tweet on Monday, Carey said she was “on a quest to dig up the version of her album with my lead vocals and that she won’t stop until we find her!”

So, while we eagerly await this impending near-forgotten album resurgence, why not check out the video below for Chick’s “Malibu”? According to a rep for Carey, it was directed by the future Christmas Queen.
