Manchester United reveal Chris Smalling transfer position

Manchester United have not received what they believe is an acceptable offer to sell Chris Smalling.Smalling, 30, is training away from the first team at Carrington ahead of a possible move ahead of the October 5 deadline, having excelled on loan at Roma last season.

Roma and Smalling are keen to finalize a permanent move, but the center-back is under contract with United until 2022 and could still end the window at the club.

“At the moment we have not had any offers that live up to our wishes,” Solskjaer said. “So that’s the situation. ”

When asked about Smalling’s worth, Solskjaer replied, “It’s not up to me, is it? I’m not the one negotiating between clubs, but we didn’t get enough offers and that’s it. ”

United will travel to Brighton or Preston in the Carabao Cup fourth round next week following their 3-0 victory at Luton, where substitutes Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood scored late.

Solskjaer made 10 changes to the squad which were humiliated 3-1 by Crystal Palace on Saturday, with captain Harry Maguire the only survivor, but survived a late scare to secure a victory that lifts morale.

“You can see we need game time,” Solskjaer explained. “These players need game time to be precise. The levels of English football are improving, it’s also their cup team, it’s not the league team.

“The level is high in the league and they did well. They made us work hard to get through, but also some positives. I liked the last two goals when the ball is moving fast: we hit them. So beautiful finishes as well. “
