Manchester City are looking to start their Carabao Cup defense with a win over Bournemouth tonight, having won the competition in the past three seasons.City last lost in that competition almost four years ago and are on an 18-game winning streak in the Carabao Cup. After beating Aston Villa in the final last season, City are back in the competition with different priorities this season.

Pep Guardiola knows a trip to Burnley awaits the winner, which would be the fourth of five games in 13 days for his injured side. As a result, the manager said he would look to his academy for players to relieve the pressure on his senior team. Guardiola knows he will be without Sergio Aguero, Ilkay Gundogan, Bernardo Silva, Joao Cancelo and Aleks Zinchenko, while Aymeric Laporte and Eric Garcia are back in training after missing out on Wolves’ victory.

Tommy Doyle, Adrian Bernabe and Liam Delap were on the bench at Molineux and could be called up, along with other academy players like Taylor Harwood-Bellis and Cole Palmer who have been training with the first team in recent months. Zack Steffen is also set to make his debut.
