In recent weeks, there has been clear evidence of an increase in the number of people testing positive for Covid-19 across all age groups, with current rates highest in the 17-24 age group years. There is evidence of higher infection rates in the North West, Yorkshire and the Humber, London and Northeast; the West and East Midlands have recently shown a slight increase.In the most recent week (September 13-19, 2020), we estimate that there were around 1.75 new Covid-19 infections per 10,000 people per day in the community population of England, or around 9,600 new cases per day.

The estimate shows that the incidence rate for England has increased in recent weeks.
