Liverpool fans are thrilled tonight after the club confirmed the signing of Thiago Alcantara and even former Reds players have responded to the news. The 29-year-old signed a four-year contract at Anfield following his arrival from Bayern Munich on an initial contract worth £ 20million.

In his first interview with the club, the two-time Champions League winner said: “When the years go by you try to win as much as you can – and when you win you want to win more.

“I think this club also describes who I am; i want to achieve all the goals, win as many trophies as possible.

” This too [has] this kind of family [feeling] that I need because we [like to] have a very close relationship with the club and I think I’m going to feel that, I’ll have that feeling, with this club too.

The news was greeted with great pleasure on social media, with Liverpool fans delighted to see months of speculation end with Thiago’s arrival on Merseyside.

However, his transfer also delighted former Liverpool and Bayern player Xabi Alonso.
