Jeremiah Farmer said in a court file earlier this week that he attacked Kelly on August 26 at the Metropolitan Correctional Center because he wanted to shed light on the government’s wrongdoing in his own criminal case.
Friday, Kelly ‘The laypersons have filed a petition in Federal Court to question Farmer under oath, according to the Chicago Tribune.
Farmer, a member of the Latin Kings gang in Chicago, managed to escape a center worker, enter a cell and repeatedly hit Kelly on the head, according to a report from the US Bureau of Prisons attached to the file by Farmer.
A security guard used pepper spray to stop the attack.
Kelly was reportedly checked by the prison doctor, who determined that he had not suffered any serious injuries.
He was reportedly placed in solitary confinement following the attack, with singer Steven Greenberg’s lawyer telling the New York Post that it was “the only place they could protect him”.
The 53-year-old singer is in detention awaiting trial on various charges of child sexual abuse – which he has denied.

He has repeatedly requested to be released from prison, citing the coronavirus pandemic as the reason, but all of his requests have been rejected.
Farmer, 39, faces life imprisonment in a racketeering plot involving a double murder in 1999, according to the newspaper.
“It appears MCC staff simply followed Mr. Farmer, allowed him to carry out the attack, and then only intervened after Mr. Kelly had already suffered serious injuries,” wrote the lawyer for Kelly Michael Leonard in the motion.
