Paris St-Germain striker Kylian Mbappe has tested positive for coronavirus and will miss the Nations League match against Croatia on Tuesday.
Six Paris St-Germain players tested positive for the coronavirus last week, with Mbappe’s result casting doubt on the start of their Ligue 1 season.
Mbappe, 21, scored the only goal as France beat Sweden in the Nations League opener on Saturday.
He was sidelined from his teammates on Monday and has since been sent home.
France will face Croatia at the Stade de France on Tuesday at 7.45 p.m. BST.
“His Covid-19 test carried out by UEFA on Monday morning revealed a positive result, he was separated from the team after receiving the results at the end of training and returned home in the evening”, confirmed the French Football Federation.
“Mbappe was tested before joining the team. The result was negative, like that of a test carried out Wednesday at the request of UEFA for the match against Sweden, ”he added.
Defending champions PSG are due to start their title defense at Racing Lens on Thursday after having had an extended hiatus following their appearance in the Champions League final last month.
The Ligue 1 season has started but the opening game between Marseille and Saint-Etienne had to be postponed last month after four home players tested positive for Covid-19.
The league told clubs last week that its coronavirus treatment protocol meant more than three positive cases at one club were likely to result in postponement.
