In late May – as protests against police brutality continued after George Floyd’s death – Noah addressed racism in America.
The video, posted on The daily showYouTube account, has since amassed more than 9.2 million views. Noah began by speaking to Amy Cooper, a white woman who called the cops on a black man in Central Park after asking him to keep his dog on a leash, according to park regulations. (After the video of the exchange went viral, Cooper, who has since apologized, was fired from his job.)
“What’s really interesting about what’s going on in America right now is that a lot of people don’t seem to realize how dominoes connect – how one coin hits another coin that hits another, and in the end creates a giant wave, ”Noah said. “Each story seems totally independent, and yet, at the same time, I have a feeling that everything that is going on in the world is connecting to something else in some way, in one form or another. . And I think this news cycle that we saw last week was a perfect example of that. Amy Cooper, George Floyd and the people of Minneapolis. ”

He then spoke to Floyd, whose death sparked nationwide protests against police brutality.
“I don’t know what made this video more painful for people to watch. The fact that this man had his life taken before our eyes, the fact that we were watching someone being murdered by someone whose job it is to protect and serve, or the fact that he seemed so calm to do so , ”Noah said of Floyd. “There was a black man on the floor in handcuffs and you could end him, so you did.” Almost knowing that there would be no ramifications.
All four officers present at Floyd’s arrest were fired and Derek Chauvin, the officer who knelt at Floyd’s neck, was charged with second degree murder and manslaughter.
