Is Scarlet Witch creating a new Captain Marvel?

With Black Widow delayed until 2021, WandaVision is now the only Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) movie or show happening in 2020, but fans have plenty of reason to be excited. WandaVision will be the first of many Marvel shows on Disney +, and not only that, but the trailer also makes it seem like a very strange and interesting show.

Wanda, or the Scarlet Witch, is a very powerful character in the comics, and WandaVision is ready to explore how powerful she really is. In the movies, Wanda is powerful enough to threaten Thanos on her own, but in the comics she can do even more than that. Here’s a look at how Wanda WandaVision may introduce a new Captain Marvel to the MCU.

What is ‘WandaVision’

After the events of Infinity war, some fans may be wondering how Vision can still exist since he was killed by Thanos. He was killed before the breakup and as a result some fans believe Vision’s death is permanent.

However, in WandaVision, Wanda and Vision seemingly live their best lives in a bizarre 1950s sitcom-like TV show. That’s one of the show’s biggest selling points, as it’s such a dramatic detour from what the MCU generally is.

Rather than fighting evil aliens or saving Earth, WandaVision appears to be a more intimate exploration of Wanda and her powers, as well as her relationship with Vision. But of course, that’s exactly what the series appears to be. There could be more than that.

What the ‘WandaVision’ trailer reveals

Disney recently dropped the trailer for WandaVision, and to anyone’s surprise, it was a huge success that created a lot of hype. That said, while the trailer showed off the aesthetic of the 1950s sitcom, it also made some revelations about what the show could actually be.

The most obvious revelation is that Wanda is indeed making this TV show happen with her powers. This is consistent with what she can do in the comics, as she is known for her ability to manipulate reality. It wasn’t exactly the most surprising revelation, but the trailer also revealed what’s going on elsewhere in the MCU.

In one of the final shots of the trailer, Monica Rambeau, who is the daughter of Maria Rambeau, is sent to fly over a portal and is then surrounded by secret agents, likely the successor to SHIELD. Maria is Air Force Captain Marvel’s friend, and Monica is an important character in the comics. In fact, it’s entirely possible that Monica could become another Captain Marvel thanks to Wanda’s powers.

As Screen Rant reported, Monica, who is played by Teyonah Parris, has the potential to become another Captain Marvel due to the way her story unfolds in the comics. In the comics, Monica becomes a superpower after encountering extra-dimensional energy.

The MCU hasn’t really touched on extradimensional energy yet, but it’s possible the MCU will create an equivalent for the movies. Wanda is very powerful and the movies clearly show that she is not able to control her powers much. She spent the last few movies honing her skills and as a result, she became more powerful with each movie.

As such, it is quite possible that in WandaVision, as she creates this alternate reality where she and Vision can live a happy life together, she accidentally hits Monica with some of her powers. As Screen Rant wrote, this is how Monica can become a superhero.

That said, in the comics, as Monica ultimately takes on the role of Captain Marvel, she’s usually referred to as Photon, Pulsar, or Spectrum instead.
