India, France, Australia Hold First Indo-Pacific Trilateral Dialogue | India News


NEW DELHI: The Indo-Pacific gained another layer on Wednesday, with a much-anticipated trilateral dialogue between India, Australia and France, a grouping that is bringing Europe’s top power to the Indo-Pacific.
Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla attended the first India-France-Australia trilateral dialogue on Wednesday with his counterparts, François Delattre from France and Frances Adamson from Australia.
A MEA reading said: “The results-oriented meeting was organized with the aim of building on the strong bilateral relationship that the three countries share with each other and synergizing their respective strengths to ensure a peaceful, secure, prosperous and rules-based Indo-Pacific region. . ”
French Ambassador to India Emmanuel Lenain subsequently tweeted, “Trilateral talks (focused) on strengthening cooperation for a free, open and inclusive Indo-Pacific.”

Indian officials said France and Australia are key partners for India in the region.
Discussions focused on the financial impact of the pandemic on the Indian Ocean countries in the region. “The increased importance of resilient and reliable supply chains was also discussed,” officials said. India, Australia and Japan recently launched an initiative to build resilient supply chains. France can join this initiative.
Maritime safety is an area in which the three countries have strong interests. Today’s discussions could lead to initiatives in the areas of humanitarian aid and disaster relief, maritime awareness, mutual logistical support, capacity building. The blue economy, marine biodiversity and environmental challenges such as marine pollution – were on the meeting’s agenda, sources said.
MEA said, “The three countries also had an exchange on the priorities, challenges and trends of regional and global multilateral institutions, including the best ways to strengthen and reform multilateralism.”
